I love this band more than anyone i know, and i think this record fucking sucks minus three songs. It seems obvious that it was semi-rushed, and pieced together amidst a partial breakup. They really sold themselves short on this record. What some people are calling "maturity" i am calling 'uninspired'. Of Course and Shock of Being are intensely creative records, beautiful and defying all at once. This record felt more like a label obligation than an expression. These guys are capable of so much more. Frankly they didn't need Tim to come back. He is the weakest part of the band, and i feel that he really cheats the band of the creative respect they deserve. I mean, listen to Sam licks, god, what an alien genius. You don't need the "kinsella" label to be successful in Chicago.
